EUDIS coaching: support after an EDF award
The programme helps eligible SMEs turn a funded project into a stronger business. It is not a replacement for the EDF application.

EUDIS offers business coaching to eligible SME beneficiaries of the European Defence Fund. Its published offer describes up to 15 coaching days over six months, beginning after the grant agreement and within the project’s first year.
The support starts with an assessment of needs and a coaching plan. Topics include commercialisation, partnerships, procurement, operations and financing. The service is free for eligible beneficiaries; it is not a general cash grant available to every defence startup.
A successful research proposal establishes a programme of work. It does not necessarily answer who will buy the result, what product configuration they need or how a company will support it. Those are suitable questions for a focused coaching assignment.
A technical award leaves commercial work
Our view is that a team should arrive with a specific decision. For example, it may need to choose between supplying a component through an established integrator and developing a complete offer for an end customer. The evidence, partners and cost structure required for those routes can differ substantially.

Make the assignment measurable
A useful plan defines the question, available evidence and expected output. Mapping potential buyers can support a decision; a long contact list without qualification may not. The company should be able to explain what it will do differently when the coaching ends.
The coach also needs realistic access to the relevant business information. Sensitive technical or contractual material should be handled through appropriate arrangements, rather than distributed broadly as marketing collateral.
Check the entry point
Before approaching the programme, confirm beneficiary status, the project timetable and the current service conditions. Companies still seeking their first EDF award should not confuse this post-award support with the application route for funding.
