BOMA 26: the value of putting maritime technology in front of users
NATO’s account of the Lisbon experimentation event shows several kinds of technology. The common element is feedback from the people expected to use it.

- Industry
- Europe
NATO’s video report published on 11 September describes BOMA 26 maritime experimentation in Lisbon. It brings industry and researchers into contact with maritime special-operations users, with demonstrations spanning platforms and supporting equipment.
The report includes an unmanned maritime platform, underwater wireless power and data transfer, and emergency lighting. These are different product categories. The public record supports an account of demonstrations and user interaction, rather than a claim that all displayed equipment has been adopted.
Our assessment is that the useful output is not simply a photograph beside an operator. It is evidence about whether a product fits a real task and what needs to change. A company can learn about handling, maintenance, interfaces or the clarity of its controls without claiming a procurement decision.
A demonstration should answer a question
These lessons may be especially important for a supporting component. A power or data interface can affect how a larger system is maintained. A practical accessory can create training or replacement requirements that are easy to overlook in a laboratory presentation.

Keep manufacturer claims separate
The video contains participants’ descriptions of their own products. Those statements should remain attributed. They do not become independently verified performance measurements because they were recorded at a NATO-associated event. A company’s later documentation should identify the actual trial, configuration and evidence behind a claim.
What matters after the event
A useful follow-up defines the change requested, who will assess it and the next evaluation milestone. Public reporting can describe that development process without disclosing sensitive operating procedures or current deployments. The distinction protects both the quality of the commercial claim and the user’s security.
