A production deadline and an autonomy test: the defence industry week of 12-18 October
EDIP’s Ukraine production call closes on Tuesday, DRONTEX convenes in Slovakia and EUDIS puts autonomy teams to work. Six verified dates connect funding, technology and industrial access.

The coming week brings three distinct industrial tasks into focus: financing production, comparing drone capabilities and testing autonomous systems. A calendar is useful when it changes a decision. The immediate priority is the EDIP Ukraine production deadline on 13 October; the technology meetings later in the week serve a different purpose.
On 12 October, EIC runs an online Ukraine information event on STEP Defence Scale Up, from 16:30 to 18:20 CEST. Registration closed on 9 October at 16:00 CEST. Registered participants receive the access link; this listing is a reminder, not an invitation to an open registration window.
AUSA’s Annual Meeting and Exposition runs 12-14 October in Washington, D.C. It connects land-force priorities with suppliers and international delegations. Admission depends on an identifiable relationship with the association or an eligible participant category; the organiser publishes registration and session rules.
Dates and access
The EDIP Ukraine Support Instrument call for missiles, ammunition and bombs closes 13 October. Its EUR 180 million allocation targets industrial reinforcement; the maximum EU contribution is EUR 30 million per project. The separate EUR 80 million unmanned-systems call closes 16 February 2027, not this week. Applicants should work from the current Funding & Tenders documents.

Drone technology and autonomy
EDA lists its CapTech Optronics meeting and EDF STORE demonstration day for 14 October in Saumur, France. This is a specialist industry-engagement entry, not an unrestricted public fair. Confirm participation with the relevant organiser before planning travel.
DRONTEX takes place 14-15 October in Piešťany, Slovakia. The organiser publishes a security-focused drone programme and registration routes. Its practical value for suppliers is comparing regulatory, operational and integration requirements with the people who use the technology.
EUDIS Defence Hackathon runs 15-17 October at eight onsite European locations, under the theme Autonomy on the Battlefield. Local hosts control participant routes and availability. A working prototype gains value here when a team can demonstrate the operational problem it solves.
Use the week to settle a decision
Our assessment: the week favours teams that arrive with a precise task. For a funding application, that means a credible production plan and eligible budget. For a meeting, it means a technical or customer question worth resolving. For a hackathon, it means a testable proposition. Mixing these routes into a generic networking plan wastes the opportunity.
Dates and access conditions were checked against the organisers on 11 October 2026. All six entries fall within 12-18 October. The 20 October ESA grids webinar belongs to the following week and is deliberately outside this calendar.
