TOPAZ and KNDS light artillery: what the MSPO agreement actually covers
WB and KNDS want to integrate 105 mm artillery with Poland’s TOPAZ system. The industrial proposal concerns software, support and potentially ammunition production; it is not a purchase order.

WB Group companies and KNDS signed a letter of intent at MSPO on 10 September covering potential artillery deliveries for Poland. WB identifies TOPAZ integration as the central requirement. KNDS specifies a light 105 mm system.
The Polish announcement names WB Electronics, AREX and KNDS representatives. It describes a proposed industrial partnership for supply, integration and support, with an offer intended for the Polish Armed Forces.
For suppliers, the significant point is the interface with an existing national command system. This is a proposal to connect a foreign artillery platform with Polish technology. The announcement does not establish an agreed quantity, procurement value or delivery schedule.
The command system behind the proposal
WB describes TOPAZ as a modular combat-management suite. Its functions separate reconnaissance, tactical command, fire control, loitering-munition management and logistics. Recon takes information from sensors, including unmanned aircraft; Fires addresses artillery, while Logistics supports supplies and servicing.
This division explains why integration extends beyond adding a display to a gun. Our assessment is that the useful unit of comparison is the supported artillery system: equipment, software interfaces, training and sustainment. The FlyEye photographs illustrate the wider WB reconnaissance ecosystem, not the KNDS gun or a completed integration.

Read the equipment figures by configuration
KNDS’s September release gives the light gun’s mass as 1,650 kg. Its June 2024 105 LG1 brochure instead lists 1,660 kg with inertial navigation and a fire-control panel, or 1,550 kg with a goniometer. Those figures should remain tied to their respective documents, rather than being treated as one precise specification for a Polish variant.
The older brochure describes digitisation through inertial navigation, GPS and a ballistic computer. It gives up to 11 km with standard ammunition and identifies ERG3 extended-range ammunition. This is existing manufacturer documentation, not an acceptance record for the configuration proposed at MSPO.
National integration and coalition links are separate questions
There is an earlier, distinct TOPAZ development track. In November 2022 WB announced a framework agreement with Poland’s Armament Agency to develop TOPAZ+ software, including an ASCA interface. The stated purpose was cooperation between national artillery command and fire-control systems.
That historical agreement provides context for interoperability, but does not certify the new KNDS proposal. A future programme would still need to identify the delivered configuration and evidence of compatibility. Neither MSPO announcement provides a completed integration-test report.
Where the industrial opportunity sits
KNDS also states that it is ready to localise production of ERG3 ammunition. That is a statement of readiness, without an announced factory allocation or production timetable in this release. It should not be counted as an operating Polish production line.
For the Polish supply chain, the next meaningful information will be a binding scope of work: responsibility for integration, support and any local production. Until then, the letter is evidence of industrial intent. It is not evidence that Poland has selected or ordered the system.
