Mission Brief
As part of the Engine Valves team you will design and procure the valves that control our propulsion system. You will take a valve from requirements and calculation through CAD design and manufacturing into acceptance, qualification and integrated engine testing, and you will stay with it across its whole lifecycle.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
- Define the requirements and specifications for the valve together with the Propulsion teams involved.
- Calculate and design valves against those requirements, and run the design reviews.
- Prepare and organise the manufacturing of your valves and resolve manufacturing issues.
- Oversee and optimise the assembly of your valves.
- Plan, supervise and evaluate valve tests, including development acceptance, qualification and integrated testing.
- Take part in and supervise integrated system tests and analyse the data.
- Ensure component and system performance and reliability across the valve lifecycle, through development tests, design reviews and post test data analysis.
Qualification Checklist
- MSc or M.Eng. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or a similar field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Hands-on exposure to valves in any technical setting, professional, research or student project, for example design, calculation, testing or operation.
- Hands on experience with test preparation, operation and post test data review.
- Experience with machining processes and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks or Siemens NX.
- Working knowledge of Python or a comparable programming language.
- A systematic, solution oriented approach to engineering problems.
- General understanding of rocket design, and a genuine interest in propulsion.
- Able to work effectively across multidisciplinary and cross functional teams.
- Willing to travel to support launch and test operations.
- Highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented.
- Motivated and eager to learn.
- Fluent in English.
Bonus Skills
- Several years of experience designing, developing or testing valves.
- Hands on testing with fluid systems, including cryogenic fluids and oxygen compatibility.
- Knowledge of technical drawing standards and materials science.
